This worksheet consolidates the three questions buyers usually ask separately — vinyl plank cost, a generic flooring price, and laminate cost — because the arithmetic is identical for all of them. Only the coverage and price printed on the specific box you choose differ.

Both products are sold in sealed boxes with a stated square-foot coverage on the label, commonly in the 18–24 sq ft range per box, though this varies by plank size and brand. Enter the exact figure from the box you are buying, not a rounded assumption.

Worked example: 224 sq ft room, vinyl plank, 8% waste
Using the 224 sq ft L-shaped living area from the irregular-room worksheet, an 8% waste allowance, and boxes covering 19.6 sq ft each.
Purchase area: 224 × 1.08 = 241.9 sq ft. Boxes: 241.9 ÷ 19.6 = 12.34, rounds up to 13 boxes.
Cost: enter your supplier's price per box and multiply by 13 for the subtotal, then apply your local sales tax rate to that subtotal for the total. The quantity — 13 boxes — is fixed by the math above; only the price and tax rate come from you.
